    "This Movie Sucks" with Ed the Sock

    It looks like Canada is finally getting a horror host of sorts, courtesy of Ed the Sock and gorgeous sidekick Liana. It starts this Friday (sadly at midnight) with "Bride of the Gorilla" on CHCH and a few other stations.

    Ed's a mego head by the way.

          I was at a friend's place and forgot to Tivo it so I tried to watch the show live. I enjoyed it although I was waaaaaaayyy too tired to finish it.

          You know you're in Canada when you recognize one of the cohosts from working at a local comic shop.

            Well... How was it, Brian? Or at least, how was what you were awake for? How about a few details...

              So;

              I finally saw this, and it's pretty funny. Lots of good lines. "Last one there's gratuitous T&A!"

                Cool, I'll have to check this out. I've liked Ed since his old public access cable show back in the day.

                        It's good, not great. Although I watched the last episode after finishing the latest "Cinematic Titanic" which is a really an unfair contrast. CT is better written but also has more seasoned writers. The first season of MST 3K is painful at times and Steve (Ed) has always made me laugh in the past.

                        They need to work on their riffing, they're doing too many obvious jokes IMO.

                        That doesn't mean I won't stop watching, I think it has a good chance of improving and Ed has said on facebook it's a work in progress. Anything that shows the Japanese "Star Man" movies makes me a fan for life.

                        Oddly, one of the writer/performers on the show used to work in my friend's comic store in the 90s. The wonders of local programming...

                          A lot of it doesn't feel like riffing; more like a running commentary. Which I'm okay with, since it's a little different than how everyone else does it. I think once everyone gets into the swing of things it'll be a fantastic show.

                            Riffing/running commentary, it's a little weak right now. Too much "look at that guy's stupid hair!" which the audience already noticed.

                            I have no doubt though that these are monor speedbumps and the show will improve greatly with time like you said.

                              That was my thought as I was channel surfing through it a couple of weeks back.

                              Do they do skits and comedy bits between watching the movie? I would think that would be the stuff that Ed the Sock and co would do better with.

                              Although I imagine that they have had to reign in the ribald comedy given the fact that it's CHCH.
