Here's my custom astronaut. He's the first human I painted. It took 3 days before I got it right, and I stripped his paint completely twice and repainted before I was satisfied with him.

Yea...I didn't grow up with Megos, so there's no nostalgia for me.

Actually, I think it's fun to see the 'nostalgia' Megos, but it's also time for the community to move forward... I'd love to see more current takes on the figures --that recent 'Custom of the Week' from "The brave and the Bold" Aquaman is a perfect example-- because now collectors are accustomed to more elaborated figures, such as Hot Toys', Sideshow's and even DC Direct's offerings, even if they are part of a bigger scale.
Somebody should make clear for big companies -- like Mattel-- that this 8" scale is too rich and full of possibilities as to let it fall again on old clichés, by repeating once and again the same thing, 'for the sake of collectors'. I'm a collector, and there's no way I'm spending $20.00 plus shipping for a new figure that I actually already have, specially if instead of improving the classic collection it leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth, from a dorky-looking pair of boots, a poorly attached cape, sleeves that 'pretend' to pass for gloves, up to a body that can hardly stand on its own and has no work in improving articulation...

I do both Megolike customs as more detailed, more modern ones.
I made a POTA Taylor once as a gift for a fellow member here, don't have a pic tho

I'm the same as Thomas...sometimes I go for the "Mego could have made it" look. Other times I want the super detail, more "realistic look".

It depends on how I'm displaying the figure. Most of my customs are meant to complement my vintage collection and I try to give them that same simplicity. Of course, there are times when that "What Mego would have done" approach doesn't work and you have to think about a style upgrade. I'm working on a few stand-alone figures that go a little outside the silly Mego charm.

I started out with the "what would have done" philosophy but now with the upgrades in the new lines coming out, I like more how I envision it and wanted it growing up. My take on things and just matters as long as I like it.
