    >He got killed because he stole and then fought when trying to be held for the cops.

See; that's one of the things we don't know. A lot could have happened. How far did the clerk chase him? What exactly killed the guy? Did the clerk crush his trachea? Pinch off an artery? Cause stress that aggrivated a heretounknown embolism? Did he chase this guy down and in doing so leave the till unattended?

I hate that we never get all the details from the news.

    not color of his skin.
No offence, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. He's dead because he stole? He's dead because stealing caused his death? No, he's dead because some clerk wanted to be a hero for stopping someone who stole $5 worth of crap that didn't belong to that clerk in the first place. Is stealing wrong? Of course it is, but are we gonna shoot every thief from now on?

No we could just slap him on the wrist and keep sending him on his way.
And when he moves to bigger things maybe we can give him a few small county bids A few weeks here a month or so there.

We can put him in a place where he will learn to hate the system and learn from other criminals

And when he moves up to the really big time we can all scratch our heads and wonder why this happened.

Spent time on the other side of the bars and could tell you exactly what the majority on the other side thinks and you all wouldn't like it.

I wonder how all you anti-thievery types feel about illegal downloading? Is this crime worthy of corporal punishment as well? How about snagging a single Brach's butterscotch drop from the bulk candy bin and not paying for it? Should I be drawn and quartered for such an offense? I must confess, I've done this a time or two. How 'bout bootleg DVD's, I believe I own a few of those, too. If I were to be shived for owning my Batman '66 DVD's would this be okay with you "tough on crime" folks?

    The dude stole toothpaste.

If I'm reading the articles right, the guy took more than one tube. Who needs that much? The dude should have just bummed a buck off his wife and bought the stuff at Dollar Tree.

The guy was in a store and got killed while comitting a crime.

You and others are deflecting from the fact that the guy was
accidentally killed in a situation that HE started by comitting a crime
by bringing up rough analogies and repeating that it was a petty crime.

It was a CRIME that was "overhandled" in the heat of the moment
and altho' the clerk may be liable for involuntary manslaughter charges....
what happened was just a result of an overexcited clerk, yes...but
was also a result of a stupid theif
....if there were less of those around, yes, the world WOULD be a better place.

The guilty party here is not a murderous clerk looking to declare his own law,
it was a small time crook who got more than he bargained for.
When I .... how do you say (?) .... think of my mindframe on this spaceplane, I'm Skywalker with my X-Wing like I was when I was a kid.
