          Mold-A-Rama!

You're right those aren't the original machines; those are some re-vamped ones I believe. When I was 7 years old got my first Mold-a-Rama made at a Sea-Worldy kind of place in Southern California. It was a Red Lion.
Whole group of people who collect these figures out there. Some can go for pretty high prices. My favorite Mold-a-rama acquisition is my Abraham Lincoln bust from the Union Carbide exhibit at the Museum of Science and Technology at the Flushing Meadows World's Fair. (I always get the creeps about U.Carbide...remember their little "mishap"). Highly addictive collecting and they smell like Crayons! How can you beat that?!
