Trek Star Trek Deep Space Nine talk

Ever since the early/mid 70's I was a huge Star Trek fan.
When the movies came out I was in hog heaven.

When Next Generation premiered I wasn't happy (knowing it would feature an all new cast and set 100 years in the future) but I did give it a chance.

I was never a big fan of Next Gen, but I did watch it --- mostly because there was nothing better on.

    Then DS-9 premiered ......
I gave that a chance too --- but this show I hated.
To me it was boring and unStar Trek like.
But, I did occassionally watch it for the same reason I watched Next Gen.

After a few years when the Dominion War plot began it sucked me in.
By the time DS-9 ended it's run I was truly sad to see it go.
Yes, it was still unStar Trek like but I think grew into its own entity.

That's more than I can say for Next Gen which still had the 1000lb gorilla around it's neck called The Classic Series.

Voyage and Enterprise was and still is totally unwatchable for me.

As far as i'm concerned the Star Trek franchise died after the showing of the last DS-9 episode.

The New Movie is cool ... but I don't count that in my timeline.

So what do you think ?

Did you like DS-9 -- especially the last few seasons too ?

I loved DS9. Avery Brooks was the type of leader I always liked when I was in the military. I miss this show.

I thought the first few seasons were dull, but when Worf joined and the Dominion war got into full swing it really came into it's own. the final season was weak. I still think the episode where DS9 goes to war with the Klingon fleet is one of the alltime greatest trek episodes out there....I think it might have been the season 4 premier?
Enterprise I never could get into, i watched it once in a while though.
Voyager was another one that the first few seasons were weak, i did like it once they added 7 of 9. Not sure why. and i think Voyager also came into it's own in the last few years and was an enjoyable show, although I would never call it a great show

DS9 characters grew on me after a while.
    My favorite character is Quark.

DS9 is my favorite Trek. Everything after the 4th season premiere is great stuff. Before that it was hit or miss, but there are some gems there too.

I liked Next Gen too, but DS9 was the champ in my eyes. Voyager and Enterprise failed to grab me, though. I think the new Stargate is a far better example of the stranded in space setting, and of course, the new Battlestar Galactica beats 'em both.

As for Voyager, I would rather watch 100 hours of Wesley Crusher than a minute of Neelix. DS9 was OK, but I never liked it as much as my favorite TNG episodes. There were a few DS9s that I would take over some of the weaker TNG eps.

Loved DS9. Especially the later seasons. Didn't like the ending though. Kinda weak. Have really enjoyed the novels that are set after the series.

I have to say it was my favorite series of all the Treks. I loved the tension, the politics and the seriousness of the series. I know there were a few lighter moments, but having all of them on one space station on the edge of a war on two fronts was really well thought out and made for some neat stories and arcs. I thought it was compelling television, but then my tastes are usually in question.

I totally loved DS9! i loved Quark, too. The characters were great. I watch the series all of the time. I don't know why so many people dislike it. I definitely miss the show.

I loved DS9 because it actually took the step into the realistic plot device of warfare. It makes sense that all species encountered can be reasoned with. I hear Roddenberry disliked the Dominion war story but I disagree with him in that argument.
