    The Ready Gang

File this toy line under "Can't remember the name" Marx's Ready Gang line didn't get a lot of recognition and kind of got swept away with all the Western Action figures released in the 1970s. It's hard to imagine but at one point almost every major toy company had a series of Cowboy action figures on the market. Heck even Marx was still pumping out Johnny West figures.
I wonder if I could even find one at retail right now and no I don't count Vigilante from JLU...

Ah, the Ready Gang. Great figures. Probably the first toy line that was made up solely of villians, as even Trooper Gibson was a gang member.

Sadly, they came out in the late seventies when kids had switched allegiances from cowboys and super heros to Star Wars (curse you Lucas!!!).

Contrary to many's belief, these did not re-use the Lone Ranger bodies (that Marx had access to). They were an all new design and are a step above Mego's design/articulation wise, but the plastic used for the legs, and the tight fitting boots, led to many broken ankle joints...and rooted hair was cool on Ringo, but the Sundown Kid ended up looking a little too "cutesy" for my liking.

Clothing and accesories are top knotch, and yet to be equalled by any other 8-9" line.

When I have more time, I'll post some pics.

Did they sell the figures without their horse? $10.94 is pushing it on a price for that time. Not crazy, but a bit high. I assume selling the figure alone would be cheaper. Also, if these are late 70's, the 9&1/2" size seems unwise.

The figures were sold seperately in nice (albiet drab) window boxes.

Without any TV promotion or fanfare, it's not hard to see why kids kind of ignored these guys. I have gotten two emails over the past couple of years about an "AMAZING DISCOVERY" of a rare black Lone Ranger figure, it's always Trooper Gibson.

I am intrigued by this line--it's another one I wish I had known of back then. Is there a good visual reference for them online?
