    1977 Ideal J.J. Armes Catalog

The story of J.J. Armes is so fantastic that it sounds like it came out of a toy maker's brain storming session.

After losing his hands in a childhood accident, Jay Armes worked hard and trained himself to use his steel prosthesis in any fashion that a hand could function, he also trained his mind and body and became an internationally known private eye complete with gadgets and a pet tiger!

It's no wonder that Ideal toys released their line of J.J Armes inspired toys a year after he released his autobiography. While the toys didn't last a long time, they certainly one of the more memorable action figure lines of the 1970s:

One of my favorite stories in the action figure world. Totally amazing and a true to life action hero if there ever was one.

AND. That C.A.M.P. is TOTALLY amazing!!!
The van is great, but man; that playset ROCKS. Wish it made it past the catalog.

I never even heard of this character before joining MM.

I had both him and the van as a kid. One of the first things I sought out after I started seriously collecting, and at that point I didn't even remember what he was named.

But I never knew he was a real person til I joined here.

I had one when I was a kid. I only have a couple of strong memories of playing in the yard with him and having lots of fun, but his original hook hands tended to get bent out of shape or broken easily.

No desire to search out a replacement, but I did like the toy when I was little, and I did know somehow that he was indeed a real person.

I don't remember ever having JJ when I was a kid. But I think I've had pieces parts to him and didn't know it. Shoot, I may still have pieces to him. Just not up on my JJA.

I remember buying the figure on deep discount. I thought it was pretty neat.

I never owned one as a kid, but I remember seeing them on store shelves. I thought they were really cool.

About a year ago, mattelmike was nice enough to sell me a boxed one in brand new/unopened condition for $30.00 shipped.

                    Thanks again, Mike!

I considered bidding on one a couple times but I think he was bigger than 8" and I don't really like having a bunch of mixed scale figures in my collection.

I am a big fan of Mr. Armes. I wish they would have made that C.A.M.P. Playset.

Here is some info for those of you who love this 9" man of action:
