Livin' the American Dream!
Scalpers are alive and well in skateboarding. At least in the Beanie Baby-esque world of limited edition reissues. Out of the 100 that are issued I'd guess that more than half are bought just to toss up on eBay.
They still exist but don't seem to be out there like they used to....I think Ebay did a lot of things that almost discourages the behavior. With their fees through the roof; it really isn't worth it to many people to buy a hard to find item, mark it up and place on Ebay along with many of the same items. By the time fees are paid; the scalper doesn't end up with much.

Years ago there was a team of toy-scalpers that scoured the entire town every morning, and stayed in touch using walkie talkies. By my best count there were five of them. They would go so far as to pay-off employees at the different stores to make sure the product never hit the shelf. That practice is what got me buying my kids toys using online stores; pathetic people that have no life...![]()

I'm sold. If I cant order or pick up the reissued Megos from a comic shop I'm just not trying.
I'm going to go fight scalperts anymore.
I'll collect a lot less. Or I'll just wait untill someone here wants to trade.

When this thing 1st came out people on ebay were selling it for 135+ ... Unreal !!! ... Then about 6 months after the fact, till now,.. it's seemingly worthless. Funny stuff there... I actually saw these at Toysrus .. there was at least 7to10 on the Shelf..., went back the next day to see if I could snag 1, after I scene the prices for them...,all Gone. I'd bet the same Dude bought them all.
How come the 66 Hotwheel Batmobile seems to still be hard to get anywhere ? ... I only ever saw it once..., I think it was just put out.
They are there .. big time, and the Internet allows these people to get so much more for something than could ever be done before.

WANTED !!! Mego Ironman } Gloves , Belt Trading for SideShow Joes , Neca Predators Series 3-5 & Scout , and Monster High Holt Hyde.
They are still around but not as much in my area. A few years ago they were as thick as locusts and drove me up the wall but the market seems to have collapsed. They do seem to gravitate towards the DCU stuff.
I was shocked today ... I had 2 hours to kill between a couple classes, so I hit Toys R Us ... and I found the 1:18th Hot Wheels Batmobile. Then I realized the reason they weren't gone is because they were located in the Super Hero area and not the Die Cast. On my way to pay for one, some guy said I was lucky to find one, and I told hime there were 3 more. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I saw he bought the 3 that were left. I shouldn't have told him![]()

Hmm... I could mention that I've seen a number of people buying large numbers of figures from mattycollector.com, just so they can turn around and sell them at higher prices.
