I would so love to see Hasbro re-issue Armstrong and Stretch Monster!
I would so love to see Hasbro re-issue Armstrong and Stretch Monster!
I hope you find one one day. Personally I wouldn't want it anywhere near my collection. The risk of it bursting and all that corn syrup dripping all over my figures... perish the thought...
"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan Poe
If you lived in a cold climate he made quite a weapon on cool days.
I got in trouble for hitting my sister with him.
Rich
strangely most are still found boxed and in at least decent condition.
While I can understand somebody not wanting to spend a re-tarded amount of money on something that probably shouldn't still be around, you just have to hold a nice mint one in your hands to feel that proverbial flood of nostalgia wash over you.
Oh, and corn syrup doesn't rot, just get's hard.
My understanding is anything organic can spoil, rot, etc. I've had a Stretch Armstrong figure go bad and rupture on me. It wasn't pleasant. It was stinky, gooey mess. It did smell spoiled.
The Stretch figures were great toys in their day but even the best surving vintage Stretch figures are all on borrowed time. Not to mention you can't actually play with them anymore because the old laytex will tear and the corn syrup has gone bad/hardened.
Hopefully the long rumored Stretch movie will actually get released some day and Hasbro will reissue some of the toys to go with it.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
i love stretch armstrong. i bugged my mom all the time for one and she finally bought me one xmas 1978. sad to say, when i opened it up, it was leaking badly with corn syrup all over it. we took it back to the store and they had no more. lucky enough to find one at atlantique city toy show back in 1998 for only $40 and in mint condition. i was too scared to stretch it tho.
If they make a movie I'm sure they will want to use likeness of the actor playing Stretch for the new toys, however I hope that Hasbro rereleases this toy with the original Kenner head sculpt as well. Wow, that would be awesome. I'd probably stock up on them.
Cap toys released a Stretcharmstrong back in the 90's.
It had a awful head and didn't use the original body mold. It used one of the other stretch creatures mold instead. Needless to say it died a slow painful death... It was clearanced at KB Toys: The real world isle of misfit toys.
I've never able to get my hands on a stretch monster, had Stretch, X Ray, Superman (it went poorly) , Plastic Man , Hulk, two Spidermen but never the Monster. I kind of quit after that.
This past summer I bought an empty Stretch Monster box from Charlie, thinking it would suffice but it doesn't and now I don't know what to do with it.
Rack Toys: Cheap, Crazed Playthings book now available!
My original Stretch head was glued to a 12" Hulk body (painted flesh tone) back when I was a kid. He still looks cool.
I always wanted to get a Stretch Monster head shrunken to mego scale to put on a Hulk body.
