I actually had a bunch of those as a kid. They were made by Mattel. Really unusual designs. Soft rubber bodies and hard plastic arms and legs with 3 3/4 inch GI JOE style weapons.
Here's a bunch of pics and a list of the stuff made.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I remember these. They rotted on the shelves around here for years at one of the drug stores in town. And now they are expensive and rare? Figures.

On the same idea does anyone remember barnyard commandos? Artillery laden farm animals. Similar in design, but were pretty psycho cool.
GFY!!!
HEY!
This came up in another discussion! Was there a cartoon? I KINDA remember one.

Man the 80s were a strange time for toys. Seems companies were trying anything that might stick prior to the revival of licensed stuff from Playmates and Toybiz. Remember Boglins, Imhumanoids and Supernaturals? Cool toys but still kinda odd.

I think MOTU and GI Joe showed how toy companies could make a butt-load of money on their own properties with no licensing, and everyone else followed suit, even Mattel and Hasbro!
