    Doctor Who: Favourite Male Companion?

Who's your favourite? Other than Captain Jack, I feel like the male companions often get shorted in favour of the females on board the Tardis.

It seems to me,the newer male companions stink when you compare them to the older ones.

Jaime all the way and then Ian , Harry third. if you count Brig and Benton put them above Harry.

There are only a few male companions (i prefer the term regulars since it allows the inclusion of the Unit troops)

    best to worst

    Jamie
    Ian
    Brig
    Benton
    Harry
    Then Cpt Jack
    Mike Yates
    Steven Taylor
    Turlogh
    Adric

I think that's all of them

The Brigadier if he counts as a companion. Otherwise Jamie. I can't think of any other male companions that really stand out other than Captain Jack (but he's almost like a guest-star to me since Torchwood).

Jamie. He was lots of fun. Especially in the 2 Doctors when he was nearly eaten, haha.

A few of the reasons I like Jamie ...

    1. The guy is no whimp ... he'll fight anything even if he knows he's outmatched

    2. Of all the companions, he's probably the closest companion that the Doctor would think of as a real friend.

Can we count Donna's Grandfather as a companion now? They refer to him as such in Doctor Who Confidential.

I think the dynamic between the old, but young looking Doctor and and old human is a fascinating relationship that rarely has been explored.

You can see why over the years they emphasized the female companions and their sex-appeal.

I guess the Male Companion was originally introduced to do all the action type stuff back when the Doctor was an older guy, which hasn't been the case for a very long time.

Do you think the Doctor is better off with only one companion or two or multiples? What was your favourite era where the Doctor had more than one companion?

My favorite Doctor era is when he had basically no real companions -- which was the Pertwee UNIT years.

I think TODAY i'd rather see multiple companions --- only because there's less of a chance they'll do a love story with more than one campanion.

The Doctor should not be left alone with young girls anymore
