    One click bid

So, I'm bidding with one-click-bid on a figure in an auction that's about to end. I'm having the usual trouble deciding how much the figure is really worth to me, and I decide to place one last bid. As I click to enter my bid, I see that the amount has suddenly jumped by $35. A second later the auction ends, and luckily I haven't won. I check bid history and learn that, yes, I did bid $35 more than I intended to. This may be the end of my one-click-bid usage.

Anyone else ever had this happen? I'm thinking that a bid retraction would be in order, but that's not cool, either.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

Never to the tune of $35, but my bid has jumped $10-$15 higher than intended.

Yup, I thankfully didn't win during a 1 click bid war the other day. Down to literally 3 seconds and I saw I lost, so I bumped it up, but there must have been another bidder and it went up $25! I was glad I lost, because I was just trying to bump it up a couple bucks.

if you just click it, it has an automatic amount that gets set based on the current high bid.
so, right before you clicked, it presumably got a higher bid from someone else, and then bumped your 1-click amount

    dangerous!

Scary, I could get myself in lots of trouble with that.

I've never heard of 'one-click-bid'. Maybe Ebay UK doesn't use it.
    How does it work?

After you've bid on an item, this will show up as an option (a refresh might be necessary). It is a small window showing time left, current bid and it has a box for you to place a bid along with a button to submit. It automatically refreshes about every second. It saves bidders the annoyance of having to manually refresh every few seconds, and turns the auction pretty much into a live auction.

The drawback is that when it automatically refreshes, it prepopulates the bid box with whatever amount would exceed the current bid. In my case, someone placed a large bid near the end of the auction, which increased the price by $35. I had intended on raising by $5 from the previous price, but instead the system substituted $37.50 as my increase. It's really a matter of how fast one can type & click the button to submit. In the last 10 seconds of an auction that's attracting multiple bids, it can get chaotic.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

I've watched the clock count down, but does the bid count and bid amount also increase on that screen? I don't buy many things that seem of interest to anyone other than me, two polar bears and four seals, so I've never seen anything but the time change on the screen without refreshing.

Yes, the bid count and amount change without refreshing.
