It's beyond us folks...it HAS to be in order for it to succeed.
That's why I wish this was an EMCE line and not a Mattel one.

I look at it as a sort of "selling of Mego's soul" to have Mattel try to relate
this "not-so-vintage" Retro-Action line to the WGSH line, trading
true simillarity of the new product to the vintage product
for wider distribution by a big name toy company.

And MIB41 makes a goods point....Mattel is going to have to work HARD
to make Retro-Action endure up to even three waves.

    Here's hoping.
When I .... how do you say (?) .... think of my mindframe on this spaceplane, I'm Skywalker with my X-Wing like I was when I was a kid.

THANK YOU!!! Anthony I would take your card or box every day of the week and twice on Sunday, over this current example by Mattel. You rock bro...
It's not how hard you hit, but how hard you can be hit and still move forward.

I hadn't returned to the Mego collecting circle when CTVT came out with their Mego-like lines but I'm willing to bet there was just as much hope and praising about them then as there is about the Mattel line now.
Do I need to go on?
In other words: In 5 years will we be saying the same things about this line that we are about the CTVT stuff? Will another company be rumored to be the next Mego Resurrection at that point?
    What goes around comes around.
The only difference I see is the involvement of Abrams & Clarke and to be honest I wish they'd either co-produced an emce line or resurrected the Mego name and done them right and true.
At least with the former way I could justify the higher price (smaller company and manufacture runs) and with the latter there would be no compromises.

    >it's not just the toys but the experience

Same sort of thing I was talking about in the comics section: how folks hate the new stories with their favourite characters, even though the OLD stories weren't that different. There's something beyond the product itself that affects their reactions to it.

    >It's called nostalgia.

It goes beyond that, into a sort of emotional inertia: it's not the need to relive the old, but to have the new FEEL like the old. And that desire manifests consciously as a want for the old, even though it isn't. I don't think you're gonna get the same kick you did seeing your first Batman figure as a kid from seeing ANOTHER new Batman figure. But that's what people seem to want. (At least as far as they see it.) So they keep swimming in the same circles looking for that feeling, that CAN'T come 'cos they're still swimming in the same circles.

....and that frustration manifests as a detesting of the new; even though it's not them, it's you.

I am not going to begrudge any one of you your complaints. I am one of you.

But, I have to ask this question...."Why on God's green Earth, did you think any of this was about YOU!? (or me)"

Your complaints would be mine, if I didn't suffer from the delusion that this was about us. At what point did you come to believe a major toy company would produce a mass-market item to make US happy?

My football days are long over. No one is recruiting ME to play Division One football these days. Similarly, why would a major toy company come knocking on my door to make a butt-load of money on an action figure....looking for ME at the ripe-old age of 41? My time for football (and 8" Action Figures) has passed. Any joy I get these days, will be from the sidelines. (Possibly, not the best analogy, but it holds true in this case.)

****...it is what it is. Sit back and reap what you can from it, but YOU were never in mind once Mattel got a hold of it. I see where you bought in, but I scratch my head at the thought of any of you EVER thinking this was about you. That thought is what is keeping you from enjoying this. Let it go.

However successful this line is or isn't, I will always chuckle at the fact that you thought for one minute that Mattel had YOU in mind when it made this deal. YOU (and me) were the handshake to get to your kids (or grandkids....yeah, it's been that long!).

Buy or don't buy....it ain't all about you. It was circa 1973-1982.....not 27 years later.

Offer up any criticism you want for this post, but in your heart you know once this went mainstream, our old-asses were not the main concern and you can be ****ed off by that or not and no one outside of this board will give two ****s one way or the other.

Mass produced, national toy store available, 8 inch Mego style compatible DC Comics Superheroes (with a name that practically screams more lines to come). Nuff Frackin' Said.
