Return of Arthur Curry The Original Aquaman?

I haven't been reading "Aquaman:Sword of Atlantis" so I may be totally off base but, in "Justice League of America" No. 12, two shadowy figures are commenting on the happenings throughout the issue. By issue's end, they stand revealed as The Martian Manhunter and an Aquaman. Visually, it's not clear on if it's the original one or the new guy (the back of his head is shown)...but based on the dialogue I'm inclined to believe it's the real deal.
Thoughts?

Aquaman, much like Hawkman and the Atom, has been dragged through redo hell a few too many times, when there was nothing wrong with the character to begin with.

i was really confused by that sequence. you see Aquaman wearing metal shoulder pad thingies, so that indicates to me its the new guy, yet him and J'onn talk about the League THEY FOUNDED, so thats clearly the original.

i simply cant stand the way Meltzer writes(comics, at least) so i'm going to start giving JLA a chance now that McDuffie is taking over. If J'Onn and Aquaman are coming back, all the better!

I really loved Peter David's Aquaman (although I didn't like the whole harpoon hand thing). He gave Arthur more depth and personality than anyone's ever done for the character. He got rid of the boring Orange/Green "Prisoner" costume, gave him longer hair and the beard. For once the character could finally stand on his own in his own title much like Batman, Superman & Wonder Woman do in their own titles. I lost interest in the character completely when DC gave him the King Arthur/Camelot treatment in the following series. Then the Sword of Atlantis series really lost me altogether.

Peter David's Run was pretty much the highlight of Aquaman's checkered history in the past few years. Not only providing a decent Aquaman origin in Time and Tide, but he pretty much created a very clean and consistent Atlantean mythology in the pages of the Atlantis Chronicles, one of the most underrated series ever.
