    The Wizard Of Oz

I just bumped into the middle of this movie on TBS. Anyone here remember when the airing of this was an event every year? It usually came on during Easter Break on a Sunday. I always begged to stay up and see it. We had a B&W TV so I didn't know the OZ part was in color until I saw it at a friend's house. And I just about fell outta my chair when the horse of a different color actually changed colors! I guess I just miss when stuff like this was a big deal.

Oh yeah, that movie was a big yearly event in our house too. Back in those pre-video days, I saw that film far more times than any other, yet it was still a big deal every time it aired. Those were different times alright, compared to these days when you can watch almost any film you want, when you want. Regardless, the film is an absolute classic.

There were many movies that, when they came on TV were events. The Ape movies, Wizard Of Oz, the original Universal Monsters movies. It's what made them special and I love the fact I can dig them out to watch whenever I want these days. Even though it's less of an event like when you only had one chance and way to watch a movie.

yup, annual ritual for our family back in the day. Ya gotta remember, that's was when a lot of folks only had 3 or 4 channels anyway....which I totally miss.
It's coming out on BluRay. I saw some screenshots and I could really see stuff I never noticed before.

It was great when it was an "event" and you had to wait once a year for the showing.

After VHS, DVD and the multiple times it's played on cable it kind of ruined it, imo

Like Spock said --- Having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. It is not logical, but often true

Last Wednesday they played in theatres around the country for one showing only. I tried to take my daughter but it sold out early. I would have loved to have seen it on the big screen.
