Wacom tablet blues - Artistic frustration

I just got a wacom tablet. It was free with my Corel upgrade. I've played around with them in the past and always found them awkward. I'm a terribly outdated artist and actually still use paper

So anyway, I'd love to make the switch to digital, but man oh man is this the hardest thing for me. I've drawn, painted and skulpted and always self taught, and am at least comfortable if not greatly talented in every medium I've ever used... until now. I've spent a day playing around with it and I'm about ready to throw the thing to the ground smashing it to pieces. I may as well be using my right hand (I'm a lefty)

Any other artists out there that made the transition to drawing tablets? Is it the case that either you get it or you don't? Or does it just take lots of practice?

I think it's part of training your brain, so yeah, practice. But also, I've accepted the limitations and learned ways that work for me to get around them. Unless you go to a Wacom Cintiq ($$$) it's not going to ever be like drawing is for you in the real world. The pressure sensitivity thing is great, but I really rely more on creating custom brushes in photoshop, for instance, to make it do what I want. It's a constant combination of paint and erase to get what I want...I also make a lot of use of precise drawing tools, bezier curves and the like.

But yeah, keep practicing---it's the only way to fly, I love it and can't get by without it.
