    Star Trek Farragut gets Animated

    http://scifipulse.net/?p=10484#more-10484

Starship Farragut is boldly going where Star Trek has not gone for the past 35 years: a series of episodes based on the style of Filmation’s animated Trek adventures.

“Power Source,” the first episode from the collaborative efforts of Farragut Films and NEO f/x, tells the story of Captain John T. Carter and the crew of the U.S.S. Farragut in search of the U.S.S. Azrael under the command of Captain Aaron Glenn. When they find Glenn, they discover that he and his crew are under the influence of alien technology.

Written by Thomas J. Scott, president of Magique Productions, LTD, the episode’s first act will be released at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on July 20 to commemorate the first moon landing by Neil Armstrong in 1969.

Act 2 will follow on August 2, and the final segment will be completed later that month so the entire episode will be available for downloading at http://www.farragut-animated.com.by August 31.

“After over a year of work by many dedicated and talented artists, we are finally ready to begin releasing the episodes,” explained Michael Struck, manager of the NEO f/x team. “From the preliminary feedback we’ve gotten from those who have seen the episode, we anticipate fans are in for a real treat.”

“We are pleased to collaborate with NEO f/x team on bringing the animated version of the Starship Farragut project to life,” stated John Broughton, creator and executive producer of the award-winning Internet film series.

“Just as Farragut Films pays meticulous attention to detail with the sets, costumes and props to the original series of Star Trek, so does the NEO f/x’s team with the look and feel of Filmation’s animated Trek series,” Broughton added.”We’re proud to be the first Star Trek film project to be presented in live action and animation.”

Continuing their roles from earlier Farragut features are Captain Jack T. Carter (John Broughton), First Officer Robert Tacket (Mike Bednar), Chief of Engineering Michelle Smithfield (Holly Bednar), and Security Chief Henry Prescott (Paul Sieber).

In addition, the cast list of “Power Source” includes Chase Masterson (Leeta on Deep Space Nine), Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan, the original “Scotty”), Jason LeBlanc, a Dallas, Texas, voice artist playing the main guest star, Captain Glenn, and Vic Mignogna, the voice of Edward Elric on Fullmetal Alchemist.

Behind the scenes, NEO f/x enlisted the assistance of various illustrators and artists, including Hetoreyn for the musical score and Kail Tescar, webmaster of the premiere Star Trek animated series website startrekanimated.com. Kail is the lead artist as well as the associate producer on the animated episodes, and he plans to release a comic book version of Starship Farragut.

Starship Farragut is based on the crew of the U.S.S. Farragut, a sister ship to the Enterprise, and takes place during the time of the original series of Star Trek. The Internet-based series is produced by Farragut Films, a non-profit organization.

Established in 2003, Portland, Oregon-based NEO f/x offers its clients the creation and production of original imagery for projects such as logos, corporate presentations, print, television, film, DVD, and the Internet.

The company specializes in visual effects work in the areas of 3D animation, otherwise known as CGI, along with compositing, editing, and conceptual design and consultation. In addition to visual effects, NEO f/x also has Total Media Packages available to its clients for ‘one-stop shopping’ for their multimedia projects.

The male redshirt looks like a young John Laroquette.

        Looking forward to seeing these.

I could never watch Farragut without laughing.

I just can't get over the bad production values and lousy acting.

You're right. I think they've captured the art style of the original perfectly. Definitely a labor of love on their part....
