Yeah I was gonna say I think you can get them both.
What all was left out, besides the snake fight scene?

Well, all that is commercially available for King Kong 1976 is just the theatrical cut movie with a trailer and no other extras.
One of the extended bits I remember the most is Kong grabbing a car of the street and tossing it against a building. The car breaks through the front of the building and blows up.
A still from that scene is even used on some home video packaging even though it's not in the real movie.Comment

I have two different makes of the "extended" version. One is the version mostly talked about here, where it was recorded off television at the time that it aired. Quality is not the best, but all the added footage makes it more than a keeper. The other one I have is where someone took the Japanese version which had most of the outtakes in a special feature section and blended them into the actual film. Not a bad job either and the quality is ten times better. I still prefer the television version though because you have the added music by John Barry that makes it an absolute gem. I had hoped it would come out when Kong got remade by Jackson. Unfortunately Jackson made it his goal to publicly dog the '76 version which really upset me. I think that ultimately influenced Paramount when they rereleased the DVD with a cheap cover. That was a sad day for me because that told me the negative press had finally come home to roost with the studio. There's a stigma within the Hollywood ranks about this film, so any chance for an extended version are remote at best.Comment

Naw, I don't think it's Jackson's fault. Paramount is notoriously skimpy in their extras on catalog releases. The cover change was because of the original having the World Trade Center on the art.Comment

It should also be noted that the French dvd version also had about 20 mins worth of the tv footage as an extra. Like many of you, I have the NBC edition"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hells Angels is currently unclear,"

I have it split across two dvds from a somewhat higher up VHS copy I was given to put on disc (The person I got this from gave me their master tape which was taken directly from someone's master tape who recorded it when it aired). Still far from perfect but not bad at all
