I could see old obscure Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo games being worth something.
We pay good money for nostalgia, go figure.

                That's wild!

I still keep trying to recapture my MEGO/NINTENDO handhelds, but they skyrocket every time they hit ebay

it's his hobby and he had the cash to spend ... I also collect NES items and I would love to have that game in my collection ... would I pay that for it?? ... NO! LOL

But it's no different than any other highend rare item in a hobby. I've chatted with a guy who took out a loan on his home so he could buy a rare MOC vintage star wars figure.

that's still an insane amount of money to pay for a game....you can probably get a lot of these types at flea markets.....maybe not this particular one with only 26 made but still...

You might even be able to find one of these in a flea market in Colorado. A friend of mine that I worked with for several years was one of the original kids to receive this cartridge and had it packed away at his folks' place. I think around 2003 he or I ran across a listing for one and at that time it was somewhere between 5K and 10K, I don't remember. Enough money for him to call his mother and ask her to dig out the basement in search of it, but apparently it fell prey to a yard sale some time after 1998, when he moved out to come work with me at a video game company of all places.
