I get what you're saying as far as things being "too updated"... I mean I wouldn't want the Newcomers looking like something entirely different than what they were in the film/original TV series... But, I don't think it'd bother me if the central characters aren't the same: It is supposed to be 20 years later so I'm guessing they wouldn't be reviving Sykes and Francisco... If George and Matt were included, they'd probably be on desk duty that late in their careers... That or they'd be the token "Two weeks 'til retirement cops" who get killed just before they hang up their badge... If that'd be the case, the investigation of their deaths could be the initial story to jumpstart a new show...

Remember the episode where the slow newcomer janitor won the lottery?
He gives teh human detective his dream. A pristine muscle car.
And teh detective is miserable the rest of teh episode worrying about it. Insurance, garage etc.
