Thread: Headless Astro-Boy in to-do pile...

    Scaling feedback -
Ok so... I debated between animated Bigger Head scaling, and normalized scaling and decided to go with the latter - the argument being that had Mego done an Astroboy I think they would have made the head in a humanized scale.

Except I'm roughing it out now and it still seems kind of off to me. It's basically the same size as an Our Gang Spanky head, but it seems fine to me one minute and then the next kind of .. underwhelming in scale.

What say ye my Mego brethren?

It seems that the boots are making the head look too small. I'm no expert on the character, or customs for that matter, just my opinion. The boots you've chosen are correct for the character, right? If so, I'd keep them and work with the head size. I think you should go with the bigger animated head style or it will always give you that "sometimes right, sometimes wrong" feeling. I can see what you mean, because the head size is anatomically proper, as you said. But for me, the boots are making the head look smaller than it really is. You might even go with bigger hands too. I was checking out some pics of Astro-Boy and it seems he has big hands. I like what you've done so far and I can't wait to see how he turns out, no matter what you decide to do. Now that I've rambled like an idiot, I'm done.

Personally, I think the head is a bit undersized, at least after looking at source material like this:

Hmm, I think the head should be a tad bigger

Okay - the "biggers" have it. Ditching the anatomically appropriate route and going bigheaded. Will post.

OK, here me out. There was live action Astroboy b&W movie in 1960s so you were on the money for that one. LOL. After seeing Astroboy pic I will agree with you.

Have you seen the Astroboy figures that cameout 5 or 6 years ago? Not very posable but could be used for custom parts. please ignore if not helpful.

That head will work if you shorten the neck a little and make it thicker. Also make his nose smaller.

Otherwise, sculpt a new toddler body from scratch.

I agree the head should be bigger and the nose smaller. Looking forward...
