How do you copy still scenes from a DVD?

I'm wanting to use some graphics from a cartoon for a project I'm working on and I heard there was a way to copy still scenes from episodes while the DVD is playing in your computer. Does anyone know how to do this? I just want to pause any given scene and copy that scene to "My pictures". Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
I've just used a "screen capture" program and have made a whole copy of my computer screen when the image is in pause. I then go into photoshop and edit out the parts that I don't need. I use Corel Capture, but I'm sure that there must be lots of others versions, too.

    Here's a real easy way ........

Open up your photo shop in a window.
Open any picture of yours in your photoshop (make sure it's a pretty big picture)

Open up your video player in another window.
Watch your movie until the scene you want to capture is on.
Hit .... Control - Alt - Prt Scrn

Go back to your photoshop and right click.
    Hit "paste"

It will paste the capture right on top of the old photo.

Then just crop and save .. make sure you save as a different name then the old photo

    Note,
You can also use this technique for capturing almost ANYTHING off the internet.

    Done
