Thread: Who is this (o***m) ? !!

I think when someone buys a mego figure (or comic or any collectible) and pays "serious" money (and that is relative...to some, $10 is serious, to others, $10,000 is serious) then one has to view that purchase, no matter what the intentions, as an "investment".... now, don't misread me, I love collecting too, and have spent my fair share on comics and toys, but I would be naive to think that i don't consider the monetary value of what I collect, and my ability to sell any item should the need arrise..

if you buy on ebay to resell, fantastic...you are an entreprenuer that recognizes a value... if you buy on ebay to collect, fantastic too...

there is nothing wrong with either, but if someone collects "higher dollar" figures and isn't at least conscious of the value and resell potential, then my guess is they are either the "exception" (and I applaud you) or not being honest with themselves (just my opinion, of course)

I can't argue with any of that. Whenever I buy something, the thought is always in the back of my mind to make sure that if I had to sell it in the future, I could at least get at least close to what I paid for it. You never know, a financial emergency can come up for anyone, and if you overpaid for a bunch of stuff, the pain of having to sell it off due to necessity would hurt even more if you ended up having to sell for much less than what you've paid.

At any rate, if someone buys something fair and square, they have the freedom to do whatever they want with it, it's theirs. Keep it, try to make a profit, who cares, it's their toy.

There is immedate gratification at work. I want it now and am willing to pay. If you have been looking for years for an item why play games. I will often throw out my maximum bid and walk away during last couple of days. Now I am very frugal so it helps me to know if I have a shot.
I do try to bid at the last minute but I miss auctions ending more times than not. I win about 10-15% of auctions I bid on.

I think I am going to make a mold of Francis 7's head and make some customs figures. Anybody know where I can get a Logan 5 prototype?
That was my bad Lonnie. My appologies to you. I confused you with another bidder with the same Ebay ID and just about the same ammount of feedbacks.

There's no need for you to appologise about winning any auction at any price. Bid on and collect what you want. No problems here.

I bought a bunch(yes, a bunch) of peter parker figures and don't think I could get my money back trying to sell them. I could probably get what I paid for the set of S.I. figures with boxes and bags, but that's about it. Everything else I buy probably wouldn't even sell for what I paid. So, no investment(at least monetary). I really love the figures. But I really love to tear them apart and customize them. If I make any money off of my megos, it'll be from customs. I have many in the works and a few finished but not for sale yet. I think I will make a bunch for Megomeet 2010! Exclusives, just for sale there, limited to two and three each. Maybe some up to five of each. I got a lot of time to prepare. Not like this year... Way unprepared! Everybody thinks I'm new to the Museum. I had to re-sign up and lost my old screen name. I have been here for probably a decade? I'm not sure. I was (am) in the Mego Yahoo group. I have been customizing for about 18 years maybe. I have a letter Charlee Flatt sent me from probably the early nineties. Asking to see pictures of my customs??? Not when his stuff was so much better. I was really intimidated by his letter and got "custom shy" for a while and still have problems posting pictures of my customs. I have tons of pictures of the Famous Covers customs I was making in the late nineties and early two-thousands. Someday I might post some...
    Wow, way off topic!

I saw Lonnie at Megomeet. Seems like a really nice guy! I hope he doesn't let any of this persuade him to leave the forums. Remember this is a hobby and Everyone should be able to bid/sell/collect how and what they like.

Just thought of something. I had a custom Spidey published in Wizard #45 back in 1995. It was a simple enough custom to make. I just had to make it for myself and then thought to send pictures because they were showing other people's customs. It was a cheesy picture on our backyard fence. It was the six armed Spider-man from issues 100 and 101.

If you regisitered a new account on E-Bay with an ID of "t****m" would E-Bay then show your full name when you are the high bidder on something?
