Trek Star Trek Bendees- What Happened?

I realize there is probably some simple answer for this question, but I still want to ask.

Does anyone have any idea why Mego never made Trek bendees? We got WGSH ones and Planet of the Apes bendees. But no extensions beyond that. Trek seems a likely successful enough license to extend to the bendee format.

I love my Bendees and would have definately wanted more.

  2. I remember seeing Mego's WGSH and Apes bendies in stores, but I didn't have any interest in owning them. I don't think they sold very well. Bendies were mostly a '60s phenomenon. By 1971, Major Matt Mason and his awkwardly bending fragile-armatured ilk had gone the way of the dinosaur, and a new action figure format was pioneered by Mego.

That's a good question and idea, though. Trek Bendies would have been cool to see. I guess by then Mego was moving on and were more focused on doing "techie" things with Trek like the Communicators and Planetarium toys.

One thing Anthony---Evel Kneivel and his crappy wire arms were going strong during Mego's day....

Bend N Flex sold pretty good for heroes and apes actually, the real culprit is allocation of resources.

Like Scott mentioned, Trek presented Mego with the opportunity to do electronic toys and higher price point items.

Bendies sold for $.99, probably low on the list of opportunities for Mego.

    What about Commander Zack Power?

To me, Evel Knievel seemed more like an accessory for his vehicles. I never owned him, so I don't know if he was worth playing with in his own right.

Evel was Action Jackson's slightly less-ugly, but more efeminate brother. They both had funky faces.

I figured the answer was something simple like that Brian, but it hasn't kept me from wondering and dreaming.

I actually loved the bendable arm figures like the Mego bendees and Evel. I can remembere finding a footlocker of Major Matt Mason figures at flea market as a kid and thinking they were some of the coolest things I had ever seen. Sure there were some wire breaks but man I loved those guys.
