I'm tempted to say that on a general list (not a personal one)
a character like BOBBY HILL is really the breakout charcter on that show
and deserves to be on there more than Hank---altho' Hank is a big character
sometimes there's only room enough for one character from a show
----for FUTURAMA, I'd say Bender shoulda been on the list, altho my
favorite character is Zoidberg---in fact---if I made a Top 50 list of my
personal favorite cartoon characters of all-time Zoidberg would almost
    definitely be NUMBER ONE

As far as Toyroom's "remove" list---I actually think they are all
pretty appropriate because on the most part they seem highly iconic

Wonder Woman does have me questioning the whole definition of "cartoon
    character"----but I guess that's okay----just not Gumby----Gumby isn't a cartoon

What about Astroboy, Gigantor, and Kimba the White Lion???

Speed Racer is ok, but the above mentioned are better characters and much more influential.

    Hmmmm....

Lists like this are always kinda weird. I think it's safe to leave Pikachu on. Pokemon's probably a fixture now. (It's been running for almost 10 years now.) Gerald McBoingBoing is an odd choice. He was originally from the 50's, wasn't he? And then they made a new series a few years back. (it's a kids show, so most of you probably haven't seen it.)

Most of the 80's stuff is a tough call. Sure, everyone knows Cobra Commander and Lion-O, but the toy tie in characters exist mostly as merchandaising and not neccessarily as shows. So they're always around; but the cartoons aren't neccesarily always pertinent.

I agree that Astro Boy should be on the list instead of Speed Racer. Speed pops up a whole lot on lists like this, and seems to be a fave amongst cartoon professionals more than fans.

And Smurfs? They were pretty pertinent for a LONG time, and more folks remember them than Speed Racer.... but I personally hate the little blue freaks! I'd probably put them on the list, but I wouldn't LIKE it. (Smurfs are probably one of the few really popular cartoons that concerned citizen groups APPROVED of; so that's noteworthy enough to warrant inclusion.)

Yeah,no kidding on Kimba. I don't care what Disney says;no Kimba,no Lion King.

Ok if were gonna have some of the more modern era characters on this list where are: Yakko, Wacko & Dot. The Animaniacs actually put the FUN back in cartoons and some pretty great animation also.

Stewie Griffin from Family Guy would also be on my list. What a wonderful diabolical infant!

And surprisingly the Pink Panther or Casper didn't make the cut either.

Not to be difficult guys----but I don't even know who "Astro Boy" IS

Neither do I know this "Kimba" or "Gigantor" Hector mentioned

SPEED RACER, on the other hand, I know very well----I grew up watching
that cartoon from a VERY young age---and "Chim Chim" and "Mach 5"
are part of my vocab---one of my favorite bands (Presidents of the USA)
recorded a song "Mach 5" which was a moderate hit

Oh yeah---and "Racer X" (Speed's enemy?) has somewhat of a cult following

    I dunno---SPEED seems to be a biggie

As far as Don and Ant's bad feelings towards SMURFS, well, who COULDN'T
see why one would find them annoying

    but...
Personally, I think that's why I like them....I think its hilarious how nice they
are-----like a satire or parody of "niceness"

And, unlike, the CARE BEARS, or something like that, there's actually
some good writing and a good villain and just a lot of good stuff to work with
ONE GIRL in a WHOLE village of men??????? Brilliant----that's a show premise
in itself----and the Smurfs had so much more than that

I guess I'm kinda twisted like that---finding "being overly nice" funny
    but
that's why I'm a huge fan of the more annoying charcters (Grouchy, Vanity,
Greedy, Brainy and ESPECIALLY Jokey!) becaue they are always
mucking things up for their friends by being sinful in some way

I GOT A PRESENT FOR YA PAPA SMURF!

    Have a SMURFY day kiddos!

Casper and Pink Panther definitely but at the time the list was created, 2002, I don't think Stewie Griffin had hit his stride just yet...
