i think the mod style late 1960-75'ish barbies are cool but i doubt i'll ever collect them. my aunt used to have a thin price guide on barbies. interesting read.

That is a good idea. You may also want to consider picking one up on Evil Bay loose for your daughter to play with (mangle) for now anyway. She will appreciate the fact that you kept the Wonder Woman boxed for her in many years to come. Especially once she realizes the value of collectibles some day.

Are Barbies stamped with 1966 on them worth anything at all these days? I seem to find a fair amount of these from time to time. Mostly nude though. Other wise good shape. My gf collects mainly boxed high end Barbies. I do find these stamped with 1966 some times during my collecting journeys so I give them to her. She in turn is planning on doing some customs of her own with these loose dolls some day. Should I go ahead and tell her to proceed with her customs or should I have her save them for later?

I think many, many Barbies were stamped that way for years, and maybe still are. That's they year that particular body was trademarked. So a 1966 body could have been from a 1993 doll. My wife can verify later. Are Barbies stamped with 1966 on them worth anything at all these days? I seem to find a fair amount of these from time to time. Mostly nude though. Other wise good shape. yeah they almost all have that 1966 on the body up until they chance the body style to the one they use now ... I think the heads have the real copyright of what year they came out on the back of them under the hair line.
I got some for my daughter. She has all of the Hollywood Legends Wizard of Oz, the newer pink label Wizard of Oz, and all of the SuperGals ones from a few years ago. I also get her and Birthday and holiday one every year.

Most Barbies 1970s on up are not worth a whole lot even MIB and like it has already been mentioned, the markings on the back of the doll is the copywrite date of the mold and not the manufacturing date. Lol, that caused me no end of frustration at shows trying to explain to dealers why that loose beat up Barbie they had was in fact not from the 60s or worth a small fortune.
I'd also like to add the date on the back of the head means very little as well. For example, the beloved 70s Superstar head mold was still in use well into the 90s and the recent Ponytail Barbie reissue is marked 1958 on the back of her head.
Anyhoo, buy Barbies because you like them because the after market is pretty much dead.

One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
