Does anyone know how to frame an article of clothing?

I don't want to spend the money to have it professionally framed and was curious if anyone has had any experience framing a jersey or article of clothing and how to do it.

My 12 year old daughter plays for a club soccer team. A few weeks ago we attended a Washington Freedom game and afterwards some of the players were signing autographs. To our surprise Abby Wambach walks over and starts signing autographs and my daughter has nothing for her to sign. I told her it would be ok to take her Soccer Club Jacket and have her sign it, which she did.

Last night, we were at another Washington Freedom game and my daughter brought the jacket along with an off chance of getting another Superstar professional women soccer player to sign it.

To our surprise, she was able to get Mia Hamm to sign it who happened to be there to be inducted in the Hall of Fame and we literally ran into her while we were grabbing some concessions.

After the game, Hope Solo came over and also signed her jacket to our surprise.

She was so excited that she doesn't want to wear or wash the jacket again. I thought it would be a neat idea to frame it for her and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. All of the players signed right on the front of the jacket and someone who knows more than me said that Mia Hamm's autograph is near impossible to obtain anymore.

I would say make a shallow shadowbox frame.

Do you have a table saw ?

If not, a skillsaw mounted upside will do with a home made rip fence.

Make the frame larger than your jersey ... and maybe 2" deep.

About 1/4" in (on the inside) rip a slot with your saw to hold the glass (use light plexiglass)

Stain or paint the frame ... then assemble with the frame while trapping the glass in the slots.

For the back, nail on a piece of paneling.

When hanging, use the frame on each side to connect the hanging wire.

To hold the jersey in place, perhaps use a clothes hanger inside the shadow box.

I've never done this before, but if I was going to try, this is probably how i'd do it.

It is pretty easy. Michael's or Hobby Lobby will have jersey frames for around $50 all day long (don't need coupon, they always 1/2 off).

You will need to purchase a fairly sturdy backing to mount the jersey. Hobby Lobby does cutting as you wait. Also get some thread and heavy duty needle. Place the jersey on the board the way you want it, and tack it down in several places.

I did this one myself for around $70:

This was professionally done for $200:

As a side note, here are a couple pictures I snapped of Hope Solo at the game
