anyone else like WELCOME BACK, KOTTER ?

I just got Welcome Back, Kotter -season-1 on DVD and have been enjoying them again these last few days.

I always loved the show, and it's probably in my top 3 favourite 70's sitcom's of all time --------- with a little competition from Odd Couple and What's Happen'in........

    Just wundering,

Any other Kotter fans here ?

It was good, I wouldn't say top 3. My top 3 from the 70's when I was a kid would be "Mork and Mindy", "Happy Days", and "Laverne & Shirley."

As an adult, it would be "Mork and Mindy", "Soap", and "All in the Family."

I'm tempted to buy the 1st season but not sure if I'd go further than that...

Loved it as a kid and still love it. I'd say it's in my top 10 70's sitcoms

I liked that show a lot when I was young tho I didn't always get the jokes. I was just too young.

Mike if you ever have the hankerin' for "new" material from WBK I highly recommend seking out back issues of the DC comic tie-in from that time-period if you can get them at a good price. I read them a few years back and the writing is nearly on-par with the tv show. Pretty amazing for a comic book to compliment it's TV counterpart with laugh-out-loud jokes. I'd pull them out again tonight but I can't remember which box I keep them in.

So who comes back in the bonus materials. Not Travolta I supposse? Gabe Kaplan? What's in the set?

                Everyone--- sans Travolta is there

Marcia Strassman hosts a whole show herself.
                She's still pretty hot !!!!!!!

Travolta is nowhere to be seen--- in new footage.

IMO, best of the bonus material is Hedges auditioning to be Vinnie...
                He actually sucks as Vinnie.

Also, some non P.C. auditioning from Travolta calling Gabe a "hairy fairy" -- scripted materail.

Did I ever tell you about my Uncle Myron?

I loved Kotter, a Thursday night staple in my house! And of course this had all the kids in school saying "Up your nose w/ a rubber hose!"
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

                    Hmmmm....

I've been watching it on the old tv show station here and it's a really good show. There's a definite meter to it; and the folks playing the Sweathogs have an almost vaudevillian level of comic timing and patter.

It's alos interesting to compare it to current sitcoms. There's an almost laid back feel to it; like things happen more naturally... as opposed to newer sitcoms where everything FEELS scripted because there's very little flow between gags.

The early eppisodes are my favorites. I haven't seen it in years, but Arnold was much wierder early on... and who isn't singing the theme to themself right now?

Anyone watch High Stakes Poker? Kaplan is one of the commentators and he's absolutely great.

Welcome Back Kotter was one f the great 70's TV shows.

"Up you nose with a rubber hose" is a classic line.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?
