Anyone live in Biloxi or Gulfport

I am heading there in 2 weeks with the family, unless I pay $200 a night at a casino, I am not sure what is a good hotel. They make them all look 5 star resorts. So if you live in the area or been there recently, any advice?

We don't have to stay on the beach, but we would like to be close.

Haven't been since before Katrina hit. Use to be a couple of casinos where you could stay pretty cheap but I don't know if they are still around.

I have a friend who lives in Ocean Springs and works at the Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi. I've visited him 2 or 3 times down there. This was before Katrina hit. Don tells me the Isle of Capri was rebuilt after Katrina. He works in the hotel section. I've never stayed at the Isle since I'm usually a guest at his place but if you want, I could talk to him and find out their rates.
      Cheers.

I called the Isle, its around $180 a night or so (weekend rates). All the casinos are like this, if not more. Thats just it, I am looking for a nice hotel (non-casino). All the on-line places make them look like 5-Star resorts. I know the area, and remember there were alot of dives for hotels, but this was years ago, before Katrina.

If you happen to talk to him, ask him for a nice, near the beach (don't have to be on the beach) hotel. Don't go out your way to do it, but if you do, thanks in advance.

The Imperial Palace is cheap and the rooms are not bad. I stayed there and went to see Jethro Tull and Cirque de Soleil at the Beau Rivage.
