This comes to me a really no big surprise as the economy is pretty bad for a lot of peeps right now. Although one could not tell here where I am. The stores are full, the highways are full and the restaurants always seem to be full of people. There are friggin people everywhere. Doesn't anyone work anymore? I suppose most are living off of credit cards and buyout packages from companies that recently folded. I wonder what their plan will be when their credit cards are finally maxed out and they blow their buy out money??? I suppose this is where the answer to your question comes in at. The less fortunate will be almost forced to sell off their collections to continue to survive and hope for better days ahead. There are currently way more job applicants than jobs. That is a no brainer there. Someone is going to be left out somewhere. The math just does not add up. Somebody('s) needs to create ALOT of jobs fast for the peeps that need them. I am not trying to scare anyone or put anyone in panic mode. I am just calling it the way that I see it.

Amen! I have been buying up stocks like water. I do look forward to the recession ending some day as I want to buy up some gold. It is too high right now. (For me to buy and actually profit from anyway.)

I agree with you regarding stocks. I have a feeling we are going to see a pull back over the next month when earnings reports are being released but all the better to snap up companies on the cheap.

I also agree with you that gold is not a good buy right now. A month or so ago, I would have recommended buying Platinum since the spot rate wasn't much higher than gold and Platinum is much more rare than gold. I have since notice Platinum has shot up and gold is still lingering in the $930 or so range per ounce.

The only problem with low prices for collectible toys during a recession is I can't imagine them ever gaining back any value.

Once an established collectible toy does a nose-dive, it's most likely pegged as "junk" even in a possible future turnaround market.

The Battlestar figures are a perfect example.
I can't imagine them ever going for what they once did.

I've noticed this with the vintage 12" GI Joe market...

But I'm okay with the prices never being as high as before. I'm not concerned with the value, and my local Museum is willing to accept my colection when it's time to let them go.

    Tax receipts...

I think the vintage Joe market was dying before the recession.
It was the repro's that kill them.
I seen my Joes go from being valued at at least $110.00 apeice ... to me eventually selling my set of 4 complete all original AT figures for $150.00.
I lost my shirt (collectible wise) investing into AT Joes.

Lots of people say that, but I think that it was eBay, actually. The reason why I feel that, is because I've seen items that were not reproduced -- the Japanese GI Joe, the Marine Jungle Fighter, the Race Car Driver, and the Nurse -- all tumble in price over the last 10 years. I'm not totally discounting your assertion, but I feel that it plays less a role than it's blamed for.

I think that eBay -- and our parents downsizing in the past 10 years -- has brought out more vintage product than there are collectors who want to buy it.
