    Micronauts board game

Saw this on Ebay. Pretty neat, but why did Mego not just make it instead of Milton Bradley?

Perhaps a Micronauts board game wasn't something Mego was interested in? I'd think they'd have had their hands full enough...

Does this have any Mego representation on it? Having the rights to the Micronauts line, I would assume that Mego would have had to OK this. Is it possible Milton Bradley could get permission through Takara? A very interesting piece.

It would have been licensed through Mego, I expect. Considering the micronauts bubble blower, costumes and the helmet/phaser set, I think Mego was probably less than concerned about products outside of the action-figure line as long as they paid their royalties.

I had forgotten about all that other micro stuff. I still wonder, though. Didn't Mego create the Micronaut name? I thought it was MicroMan in Japan. If the name Micronaut belonged to Mego, I wonder how it ended up on so many other products.

I recently saw one of these at a thrift for a buck and did not buy it.

I just thought everyone would like to know this important information.

You are correct about the names. MB would have had to license this from Mego, since they used the Micronauts name and logo, along with character names like Baron Karza, which are all Mego creations. I'm not sure if Takara had to be involved at all, I guess it depended on Mego's licensing and sub-licensing agreements with Takara.

I didn't know such a game existed. It looks pretty cool. I probably would have wanted one as a kid if I knew about it.

I have it. A friend gave it to me a few years ago. It's pretty beat up. I'm gonna put it on Ebay eventually.

I'd love to repro one of these so it could fit your Micronauts figures.

I find the licensing fascinating regarding the micronauts... particularly when it comes to the comic books...

Meanwhile, you have a situation on one hand where Red Sonja does not end up belonging to Marvel (I'm assuming due to her being based on a similar Robert Howard character), yet partly owns Kulan Gath?

Marty Abrams and co own Micronauts, Acroyear, Space Glider, Galactic Defender, Baron Karza and all the other toy names, but NOT Commander Rann, Mari, Bugg, etc.

Meanwhile Lucas owns Jaxxon and all the other characters created for the Marvel comics.

Plus you also have other toy tie in characters such as Dire Wraiths, Space Knights (just not ROM), Doctor Demonicus and Red Ronin still running around the Marvel U long after ROM, Shogun Warriors and Godzilla have departed.

Holy Moly! This game is awesomesauce!

You have to wonder how many of these survived intact? Although minty condition board games do have a habit of showing up after being stored in the back of a child's closet for years and years.
