Oh baby, that's NOT what I like!
That's just ghoulish.
I saw his kid on some TV show before. He seemed okay then but...
Mike is right though. Big Bopper would have been another Rick Dees had he lived.

that's jsut wrong. It's really about a kid who never knew his father, wanting to cash in. But I agree, Big Bopper would not even be remembered anymore if not for the plane crash.
on second thought, if Scarlet Johansen can put a snot filled tissue up on ebay, why not a coffin that had a rotting carcas in it for half a century
I was reading up a little on this. I had found an article that gave an eBay item number, but when I looked up the auction, it had been ended. I don't know whether eBay pulled it or Jay Richardson decided not to go through with it. Now it sounds like he's looking for a museum to take it. I don't understand why he switched his dad's casket, though, especially because the first one was very suited to the Big Bopper. The replacement was somewhat generic. There's a short video somewhere of Richardson talking about how/why he had his father exhumed.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

"Even though it was dad's resting place for 48 years, it's also a unique opportunity to learn more about the early years of rock 'n' roll."
WTH????? In what sense is inspecting a casket a "unique opportunity to learn more about the early years of rock 'n' roll"?????????????????????????? This dude is whacked out.
I've also found a few mentions that there were rumors of foul play involving the plane, but no mention of who this suspicion was aimed at. According to FindaDeath.com, that's why Jay Richardson had his father exhumed and reautopsied. They have a section on the Big Bopper at that site, but let me warn you. Some of the content is fascinating, but sometimes NSFW. To be fair, the guy warns you before you click on things you really don't want to see. In the JP Richardson write-up, there's a link to a slideshow about the whole exhumation, if you're interested.

Thanks, now I this song playing in my head.
I just have one question. When are they going to auction off Dick Clark?
His kid is a dickhead. He goes by the name "Junior" and he plays as a "tribute" artist as his dad in many rock legends shows!
My cousin met him on several occasions. He is always "out for a buck". This casket thing doesn't surprise me.
He also has learned how to sign his dad's signature real well and a lot of people have speculated he his sold many items that he forged.
What a sack of ****!
I was trying to put together a collection of every RnR artists first full lenght LP a few years ago, I had almost everybody:Buddy Holly, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and on and on. There were only a small handful that I hadn't picked up and the Big Bopper was one of those. I just couldn't justify dropping good money on his record, he's really a very minor footnote in RnR history. The part I find the most tragic in all of this is that his son has never found his own identity and continues to live of the "legend" of a man he never met, his father or not.
