    kresge with a large S?

    Hiya folks,

I am not a carded collector and have not really looked into the Kresge items, so I am not uber informed on the variations there.

I had always thought the large S supes was pretty darn limited and only released in a solid box.

So then there is this fellow

Superman Mego 8" Super Heroes figure 1972 MOC Kresge - eBay (item 320317422967 end time Nov-16-08 19:04:10 PST)

Taking a quick peek in Bens book, I see a Kresge with a large S.

Anybody got any info on that?

Oh, and don't poke yourself on the staples.

    rche

OK, so this is my question. Not answered in WGSH; or at least not where I could find it.

Are K cards all big S?
Like all solid boxes should be big S.

    thanks

No, if you look in the galleries, you can see small S superman on a K card. Unlike solid boxes, the "first issue cards" ran for a few years.

There's no hard and fast rule w Mego especially in the early years but...
there SEEMS to be 4 ways you can see that large S Supes.
The first and rarest wd be Large S sticker on front of the figure and back of cape, w skinny boots found ONLY in early solid boxes(has anyone ever pulled one off of a Kresge or 1st issue card and found a sticker on the back?)
Then Mego did away w the duplicate sticker on the cape and those figures made their way into the last bit of solid boxes(so that wd be the 2nd variation:solid box, large sticker on front ONLY and skinny boots)and into 1st issue and Kresge cards.
This "single sticker" Large S Supes,STILL wearing skinny boots but mounted on 1st issue card,
like the BEAUTIFUL one in Don's auction mentioned above,wd be the 3rd variation(same exact figure as 2nd variation, just packaged in a card instead of solid box)...again there's a remote chance that there is a cape sticker on that carded one but unlikely...It's really whatever leftover early parts at that time they were trying to use up but ther is speculation that the reason Mego Supes went from having 2 Large stickers to 1 large sticker and finally 1 small sticker was an early cost cutting measure by Mego.
The 4th and final wd be 1st issue/ Kresge card Large S Supes w NON skinny boots, the shortly after that Mego went to a small S sticker.

Hope that helps to clarify rche.

    Super clear.

Just interesting how jumbled the recreation of toy history can be. I would have thought the large S would be long gone even before the first cards. (which have images of second wave figures on them)

But this is why I really like toy archaeology; You learn something new all the time.
