    Plaid Stallions Spoooooky Games

While Monster Toys often get the shaft in department store catalogs for being too seasonal , the one place where that doesn't seem to happen is the games section which always have a few monster items in for good measure.

Take this 1971 spread for instance, we've got the classic Green Ghost game , something called "Which Witch" and a TV boardgame from the popular daytime horror show Dark Shadows.

Back in the day they knew how to make boardgames, nowadays they all look so boring, I almost feel sorry for the kids

Which Witch was mentioned on The Venture Bros. as one of the toys Colonel Gentleman wished he had when he was a lad, but they weren't invented yet. That Dark Shadows box art is sweet. Baranabas was one creepy dude.

And don't forget Megos contribution to spooky games: Them Bones.

I think I had that Which Witch? That looks awfully familiar.

I had Superstition by Milton Bradley. It was set in a graveyard and the path had graves that you could step on and pull one of 2 pegs. Pull the wrong one and you'd go flying off the board. Anyone remember that one?

I didn't have it, but I remember the Casper game. It glowed in the dark.

Which Witch was called Haunted House in Australia (Maybe elsewhere too?) and it was my absolute favourite boardgame. I've tried to get a nice Toltoys Haunted House example a few times on the 'bay down here and been outbid, they consistently go for $150+ in excellent complete condition.

One of the play features was a card which forced you to drop a marble down the central chimney, it would come down one of the four staircases at random and knock down whichever piece was in the way, even if you were only one step away from winning, great fun!

    Nice thread B!

  8. I had that Dark Shadows game back in the day. It was a Christmas present, but I don't remember for certain which year I got it.

I had Which Witch. Fun little game, but a lot of work to set up. I remember the Barnabas Collins one also, but don't remember playing it.

Like Sowth, I've made a few runs at Which Witch? on ebay with no success. I was not a board game fan, unless it was a 3-dimensional game like Which Witch or Mouse Trap. The game is so polpular amongst collectors, there's even a website listing all the parts so you can make sure you get one that's complete.

I thought there was even a Doc Mego for the Which Witch community, but I can't find it right now.
