Johnny Depp as TONTO?!?

I wanted them to cast up and coming young actor Rudy Youngblood from Mel Gibson's Apocalypto film...he would've been perfect:

Haven't seen Apocalypto, but the guy has the right look there.

It occurs to me that I felt the same way about Anthony Hopkins being cast as Zorro. One he was way too old, two he was English! But dagnabit, it worked. So maybe this will too.

The thing about that is that he was not really the lead actor for Zorro...Antonio Banderas was...Hopkins was a supporting actor playing the older Zorro.

True, but Tonto shouldn't be the main character in a Lone Ranger flick either. That's like making Robin the star of a Batman movie.

Yo Chris...you should really make an effort to see Apocalypto...it's a great film...not 100% accurate on a historical point...but it's still a great flick.

Bit of warning though...it's very bloody and violent.

I couldn't see Depp doing anything positive to the part of Tonto. They need a full-blooded American Indian. I couldn't see him in that any more than I could see him doing a remake of this Spot.

Of course that commercial starred Iron Eyes Cody who was a full blooded Italian.

The rumor from Ain't It Cool News is that actor George Clooney is the intended pal for Johnny Depp's Tonto in the big screen reboot.

Now, that MAY work. But then I think about Batman and Robin...and cringe. Plus George is pretty old (but then again so is Depp).

Dark Horizons mentioned Clooney as the Ranger too....rumor goes it his to accept or turn down.

Not sure myself, they could do worse....they could do better. At least with these two bigger names in it, you know the film is getting a fair shake budget wise....and hopefully is being designed as a straight adventure over some hokey Starsky and Hutch/Dukes of Hazzard remake garbage....I hope!

If Clooney is LR, I'll skip it. No use for the guy. He couldn't pull off Batman. No way he could pull of LR. Depp on the other hand, while can be a bit much at times, could pull off Tonto.

That whole film was a misguided clusterscrew.

Clooney is a top notch acting talent...to judge
whether Clooney can pull off Lone Ranger from his
appearance in Batnipple is unfair in my opinion.
