For the most part, my fav variation of this is the present day traveler going back in time.

My top 5 time traveling movies are ...

    1. Time After Time
    2. Back to the Future -1
    3. The Time Machine
    4. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
    5. Daleks Invade Earth: 2150-AD

I also seem to remember liking Time Rider, but I haven't seen it since new so I almost totally don't remember the story.

Also, there was a movie starring Jim Belushi as a bad guy ... and a Time Machine in the desert.. I forgot the title, but that one was pretty good.

    What's your favs ?
TimeRider the adventure of Lyle Swan with Fred ward is a classic.

If you are going to mention TV shows, two episodes of Twilight Zone were really beautiful time travel stories. Watch "Walking Distance" and "A Stop At Willoughby" - they are really fantastic.

I've actually been to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan where they filmed Somewhere in Time. If anyone ever gets the opportunity to go there I highly recommend it. Beautiful place and a beautiful hotel.

Did anyone like that show Timetraxx ( I think that was the name)
It was about a cop that went back in time to catch timetravel crooks.
He posted notes in the newspaper for his future colleagues.
He had a holographic woman that was his mentor/advisor.
The actor's name escapes me but he played Elvis once also.
