    You have no idea.
John Lennon was my hero as a child and growing up in my life.

There was something horrid and disturbing turning on the news at a young age and seeing your hero shot to death in the doorway of his building complex.

It has left an unsettling feeling in my soul that I would never be able to repair.

Look, err... what makes you think I have "no idea"?

I adore John, and have since an early age. (This is not a contest, I'm just stating the facts.) My sister and I loved the Beatles, and in late 1980 had spent the last several weeks before John was shot relishing his new record, Double Fantasy, which my sister got for her birthday. We were devastated by John's murder. As was our mother, who had loved the Beatles when she was a teenager and a young woman. The three of us watched the televised vigil that December, around the time of my own birthday, and cried our eyes out in sorrow and confusion.

But wishing death on someone, even a person you deem to be evil or unredeemable, is just wrong. Good Lord, you're fantasizing about televising his murder at the hands of an angry mob. You don't know what plans God or the Universe might have for this person, and it's not up to you to decide when and under what circumstances anyone should die.

I know what you mean, but if someone killed my hero I'd wish death upon him as well

Or look at that guy that was posted here today about raping and killing the 6 year old.I would'nt wish death upon him,but I'd like to be the one pulling the switch on the chair when he gets it

Hey Wrath---I too understand your pain and frustration---

but I can also understand Vort's posts regarding yours....

your words come off (to me) as relatively careless (bordering on irrational)
about issues that are very important---

    life---death---heroes----justice

    That's just my take.

Then again, I'm the type of guy who could only see myself snapping
and become a thorough killing machine only if two people in my life were
murdered----and, even with saying that----if it actually happened---
I don't know HOW I'd exactly manifest my feelings

That being said---this Chapman is an interesting case study to me, him
having comitted this murder---BASICALLY to create threads just like this one.

    His goal was "FAME"

and he got exactly what he wanted by killing one of history's BIGGEST icons.

    Its an amazing story.

I'm reminded of two things here -- both of them, predictably, about Batman.

The first is that I accord with the viewpoint of the Batman as represented in DC Comics since the late 60s: that criminals, including murderers, should be brought to justice, punished for their crimes via incarceration, and removed from society for a period of time commensurate with their crime. Muderers should be put away for life with no chance of parole. Killing in any instance is morally wrong.

The second is that in the recent Batman movie, a seemingly callous and self-interested citizen proclaims that he will push the button that will kill hundreds of incarcerated criminals and pre-empt his own presumptive death... but at the last moment, the citizen finds he cannot push that button, as he realizes the implication of what he is about to do.

Saying or thinking or believing you will act a certain way is very different from actually meeting that moment and acting from your center. You might find, in the moment, that mercy is more important, after all, than senseless vengeance designed only to make you feel better.

In my last post, I certainly was thinking along the lines of your last post Vort.

so your saying you wouldn't kill child rapist's and murderer's, but you'd kill this man because he killed your middle-aged millionaire musician hero?
