The CBC and The New Doctor Who

I was just watching a few older New Series episodes and was suprised to see CBC in the ending credits ..
"CBC" seems to have disappeared from the credits in later years.

What happened ? ... and why was the CBC on Doctor Who credits to begin with ?
Did the CBC partially finance the show from the start ?

I'm beginning to think so considering their first season Canadian contests, which were even done with Eccleston ( in DW attire) doing all the CBC bumpers)

Thanks to a certain Canadian, I seen and have 95% of all the bumpers

BTW,
Right now there's still none of these Eccleston DW bumpers on youtube.
I wish I knew how to take mine off my DVD-R's and put them on youtube for all to see.
