Thread: Any shows your kids aren't allowed to watch?

  1. #11
My boy really has restricted viewing but he doesn't know it. He cannot watch just about everything on TV, except Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, Star Trek TOS (he watches just a little) and Seinfeld (he wants to learn it because his mommy and daddy talk about it all the time!). Speed Racer is about as violent and racist as we get.

I had total control of the dial as a kid. I am messed up because of it!! LOL

    1.Barney- I hate barney

    2.Tele Tubbies-Horrible show
4.Wiggles- Dear god what an annoying turd show
I'll give you 1-3, but I have to admit that I don't mind the Wiggles, and my son loves them. Damn those Aussies and their colourful shirts and catchy songs!

Because of my wife, he watches a lot of Japanese kids shows too. I have to take my wife's word for it that they are ok, but one cartoon segment involves a talking toilet that a character poops into sometimes. Maybe it's trying to teach toilet training, but I'm still suspicious.

    >Family guy- WAY too adult for a 5 yr. old.

THIS one ends up on a lot of lists, which I find real weird since it's NOT a kids show. It's not even PRETENDING to be a kids show. The sexuality would be beyond most kids, and unless you're 30+ years old you probably don't get most of the refrences.

I guess 'cos it's a cartoon folks assume it MUST be for kids. Even folks who should know better...

    Hear...hear...

The question marks were building in my head every time I saw it mentioned
    in this thread.

And what kid in their right mind would WANT to watch FAMILY GUY?

I mean...what kid...would even understand it enough to like it?
When I .... how do you say (?) .... think of my mindframe on this spaceplane, I'm Skywalker with my X-Wing like I was when I was a kid.

We stick with PBS kids, Sprout, and Nick JR.

We actually usually have it on the kid channels for Andrew. I'm glad Noggin and "The N" were separated. Totally inappropriate stuff for young kids on "The N". Another we don't let him watch is "The Naked Brothers Band". That show treats the kids far too adult, and there are subjects brought up on there I'm not ready to discuss with a 6-year old. Most of the other live-action shows on Nick (Drake and Josh, ICarly) and Disney (Zack and Cody, Corey in the House) are pretty harmless, I think.

I enjoy Jimmy Neutron, Fairly Odd, Ben 10 and a few others. Spongebob is hit or miss for me. Sometimes I really enjoy it, other times it just seems the creators are going out of their way to make an episode ultra-annoying.

I never paid much attention to Max and Ruby. I'll have to keep an eye out for that one. I don't think Andrew cares much for it though.

My youngest is 8 and oldest is 13.

My 13 year old doesn't really watch many cartoons anymore but I'll let him watch anything that is rated 14 or PG-13 if it's a movie as long as there isn't sexually oriented (I'll use the Notebook as an example).

The only cartoon type shows that I will not allow to be watched that I can think of are the Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama.....as someone posted they weren't meant for kids but I don't even watch them myself since many kids don't understand that there are animated shows that are geared towards adults. I have never seen a Family Guy episode as a result.

Anything on Adult Swim, Futurama, Simpsons...

Lately I have noticed that Spongebob Squarepants is reminiscent of Ren and Stimpy (one of my favorites!!), but that does not mean I restrict their viewing of it. My youngest is almost four years old.

American Idol... it's the Abu Ghraib of talent shows... most of the entertainment comes from people getting humiliated, and little if any true intelligence results.

I must admit. . .I let my kids watch anything pretty much on the Cartoon Network/Nikolodian etc.

Perhaps the worst thing is when I am watching the History Channel (which is most of the time). . .and they sneak up or in the room. . . and there is something graphic they shouldn't see or freaks them a bit.

We also let them watch The Simpsons and Futurama, although sometimes I wonder about whether that was wise. . . but most stuff just flys over their heads. . .the stuff that is a bit more adult. . .they tend to miss. . .or work out some completely incorrect childs way to look at something to make it funny for a child through some convoluted childish logic.

Both my Son (8yo) and Daughter (6 yo) LOVE Spounge Bob Square pants. Spounge Bob is to my son. . .what Batman was to me. He reads Spounge Bob comics. . .and the only drawing he does. . . is Spounge Bob and his friends OVER AND OVER.

I guess it is akin to my watching Rocky and Bullwinkle growing up.
