Wow, 30K packages all insured at a least $1.70 per. That's at least $51,000 in insurance fees. I bet the post office loves you. I'm curious how much the total of your claims amount to each year. I bet they are under $5,000. I personally think insurance is a rip off (especially through the post office). Try making a claim and they make it a difficult, slow and tedious process. Of course they are quick to offer it when you send something! Plus, in the eBay world, savvy buyers know that when using Paypal, if the item does not show up they can just file a chargeback and they've got their money. Why insure then?

If the Item gets damaged...it's not My fault they were to cheap to pay for the insurance. I'd pay...if was an Item I was buying, and cared about.
what gets me about DC is that sometimes the PO doesn't scan (or scan correctly) and sometimes they misdeliver...so, it will show "delivered" but the customer still might not have it...

I should clarify, 98% of our parcels are sent via UPS ground, where the first $100 of insurance is included at no additional cost, and where I get tracking (not DC, but true tracking), etc... we ship all International orders (about 500 a year) via the USPS, and only about 100 or so via priority mail (again, because it costs about $10 insured with the PO on a 2 pound box, and most of the time I can do it for less than $8 with UPS, and get the insurance and tracking! but there are some that only have PO boxes or that insist on using USPS)... our customers pay for all shipping costs, so even $1 in claims made, would come out of my pocket , without insurance...

and yes, Postal claims are much tougher than UPS claims (UPS claims take about 2 weeks to get paid from filing, PO are about 3 months)... and, 99% of my sales are to regular customers, not via potential ebay scammers (if they chargeback, etc)... but, if they were to claim they didn't receive, at least with insurance, you would get reimbursed (eventually), so that is why I insist on it

Guess we were typing at the same time.

Have you ever looked into shipping UPS? Tracking, insurance, and able to process everything in-house through worldship, should make it pretty well priced versus postal. Plus they'll pick up free of charge. You ship more than I do and I run a distribution center. 600 pieces a week, should get you a very nice additional discount as well. You get one level for ground residential, and additional discounts for certain levels of next day and 2 day shipping based on the volume you use. You could probably get a free computer, scale, and printer for that much shipping. They also will supply everything you need except boxes for ground level shipping. You might want to look into it if you haven't already.

    What's worse then the $10.99 shipping(on a Figure that I know is worth $25 to $30)...is the $15.99! Man...that's bad.
