    Tardis Second to third Doctor

Should this count as a re-generation?
If you watch it, the time lords forced him to change as punishment. Re-generation was never said and he was not hurt.

It is a regeneration but as it's forced maybe the Timelords added an extra one (especially after helping them out with Omega)...could be the Timelord equivelent of the witness protection scheme identity change, seeing as they imposed an exile on him...so may be an added regeneration. It's a good point....seeing as Romana went through 3 or 4 changes before settling on her 2nd body there may be a restriction only on regenerating due to fatal injuries rather than just changing your body as a whim.

I try not to focus on the 12 regenrations limitation anymore (lord knows the Master doesn't seem to need to) since that was created when no one thought the show would last over 40 years (with some breaks sure) and nevermind the short runs for Mcgann (1 film and some audio dramas) or Eccleston (just the 1 season)

Cool. . .I never knew that about the transition from PT to JP.

Back in the first run days of the Tom Baker years with Romana, I remember reading one of the books at the time that always went hand in hand with the episodes, that regenerating was something they had to study when they were studying to become a Time Lord. The Doctor, failed this subject and explained he was very bad at it and had no control over his regnerating, stating he had to take pot luck. It was explained that Romana was excellent at it, and could do it at will. . . they don't count if you do it when you are healthy, and you can control every aspect of it. The Doctor was hopeless and had no voluntary control, hence pot luck usualy when he dies/nears death.
