Thread: Black Lightning

    Black Lightning

Here's another obscure DC character. I initially thought about doing the 70's version with the full-on collar, but decided on an amalgam of his 70's coloring with a modern design very closely resembling what's being used today. This was my first attempt at using craft leather, and it wasn't the greatest. it frays too easily. Next time I'll do vinyl. Here's a couple of color roughs I did at work yesterday and after that, the final and above average results.

The costume came out very nice. I'm familiar with some versions of this character, but don't know enough about his various costumes. I have two suggestions - first and most importantly, the goatee. It should be sculpted on, because right now it just looks like a bit of black paint on his chin, which is distracting on an otherwise good overall custom. Second, and very minor, have you ever thought about raised masks? That's just something that makes a nice touch on Megolike figures. The one you painted on looks good, it's just an idea.

Good take on a classic hero. This guy would have been on the Super friends back in the day if they didn't have some goofy licencing BS thing going on and they had to "invent" that creepy looking Black Vulcan with the little boy shorts as his replacement for the token hero.

I am glad they got him back in the JLA where he belongs. I like how you combined and created a suit that represents all of his costumes.

    Kudos my newbie museum friend!

Very cool Scott -and your artwork is the best!

I got to look through his "portfolio" at Mego Meet...and if Scott's customizing skills ever catch up to his artwork...he is going to be off the chart!!!

(I don't mean that your customizing skills are bad Scott...I am really giving you high praise for your artwork)
