Thread: Can you indentify this toy?

  1. Can you indentify this toy?

I have this superman toy, I bought at a convention and have no idea who made it or when it was made, any info you can give will help. It has no markings on the bottom of the feet or anything.

....close...Actually, that appears to be Toy Biz's version of the Super Powers Superman. They produced the essentially the same figure (molds used under license) as part of their DC Comics Super Heroes line.
There were slight differences in the figures, notably in the rougher casting of the arms and legs....especially noticable around the knees. The arms and lower legs are often different shade of blue. The chest piece is also, almost imperceptably, different as well. The chest piece was altered to incorporate a very week magnet installed inside his chest. The magnet was there to simulate the wobbly effect a kryptonite ring (came with the figure--also magnetic--reverse polarity) has on Supes.

If your still not sure...squeeze the legs together..if he punches hes a Super Powers figure...if you can stick a fridge magnet to him, hes a Toy Biz figure.

Wow Captain. . . that clears up a lot. . .I thought he Looked Super Powers. . .but not quite 100%. . . .that is brilliant information.

The Cape on my Super powers one, had a wire rim that fittede around the back of the neck. . .and looks like it has the remnants of the S logo on the bag of cape which has been scrapped off. . .but not 100% sure about this. . . .that is just what the remains looks like. . .it could be some 7 year olds left over bit of chewing gum I suppose.

  7. Thanks I had absolutely no idea. I'm gonna check to see which one he is. Thanks

I'd put my money on that thing being a SUPER POWERS

    And WHY is that?

Usually the TOY BIZ Supes has a weird look to the
yellow part of the "S" insignia---a darkness lying under
transluscent yellow paint that couldn't be painted thick enough
    to camoflague the magnet underneath

    That's a SUPER POWERS Supes
    OR
the scan/pic of the figure is lighted in such a way that
the YELLOW looks more YELLOW than it usually does on
such a close up of a Supes TOY BIZ figure
When I .... how do you say (?) .... think of my mindframe on this spaceplane, I'm Skywalker with my X-Wing like I was when I was a kid.

  9. Wow, someone give huedell his money, it is a Super Powers Superman. I checked the magnet and squeezed the legs. The magnet didn't work, but when I squeezed his legs his arms swung like he was running. Thanks for all your help. The markings said DC Comics 1984, with the copyright circle, if anyone was interested.

    Thanks for the props mattkickbox

I guess the "1984" is a giveaway too---even if they used the
    same molds--I'm sure they'd re-tool that
