    Iron Shiek RIP

Wrestling deaths are nothing new, but Shiek was one of those classic 80s wrestlers that you loved to hate.

A bombastic personality in and out of the ring, he stayed in character right until the end.

He'll be missed. RIP to a wrestling legend.

One thing i've always wondered about him ...

Did he REALLY hate Jews, or was that part of his schtick ...

A&E just did a biography on him about a month ago, as part of their WWE Legends series.

RIP. Kind of an unfortunate coincidence that we lost 2 former WWF champions within the space of a couple of weeks. I think he might've been my first LJN figure too.

He was Iranian. I'm gonna say it probably wasn't an act.

I got to know the man when I was in high school. He and other wrestlers would stop by the super market I worked at after they had their wrestling events. I was lucky to have met many of the huge names back in the 80’s..
Although not all the wrestlers stopped there, the iron sheik and Nikolai Koloff, who arrived together in same car, always showed up for beer and food before heading to the NY state thruway.
He was very kind and friendly. RIP icon

Funny thing is, most Heal wrestlers i've ever met turned out to be nice guys..

Can't say the same for many Baby-Faces

He was funny as hell. A classic heal. Him and Nikolia was my favorite tag team as a boy.

If you want a laugh, check YouTube for the video of Shiel and Mene Gene with the turkey.

Way back when my family saw Iron Shiek before his WWF matches. Later we watched him on WWF/WWE and the cartoon. Years later I was invited to film a local wrestling match that had the Iron Shiek as the top heel. One of the best things was I was allowed to sit and talk to him before the match. We talked about past matches and traveling the world. He was a very nice man and I wish I had recorded that part, because it was better than the match.

That brings back so much good memories of behind the scenes wrestler talk .. especially Heals (who are the real heart of the WWF)

                              Heel, not heal.

Speaking of, my favorite heel of all time was probably Ravishing Rick Rude. What a character, and a real BA in “real life” as well.
