Date yourself: What was the 1st Comic Book movie you saw in theaters

    Picking this up from twitter:

Curious what was the first Comic Book movie you remember going to the theater and watching?

I cannot remember if I watched a repeat of Batman 66 movie at the theater or on Saturday Afternoon on tv

But I still remember going to the theater to watch Superman 1978.

Now I was watching reruns to Adventures Of Superman so that "you will believe a man can fly" did surprise me, I was just happy to see a comic book villain.

Before Superman was Star Wars A New Hope but it wasn't a comic book movie when it came out.

Funny story, when Darth Vader walks off to go get in is ship for the big final scene. my theater timed it right. As Vader with his cape flowing behind him walks off on screen, somebody was dress like Vader and walked from the front of the screen all the way out. It messed my little brain up so much. I wish I had a photo of it but at this time people didn't think about it as much in small towns.

So what was your first CBM rather good or bad?

it was Superman 78, but I also saw some of the SANTO & MIL Mascaras movies in the cinema too. Do they count????

Then came Buck Rogers in the 25th Century before the tv show.

memory is shot, but wasn't Spiderman in the cinema before tv???? Or not, that may have been something too.

Superman The Movie was the first live-action film I ever saw in a theater. I had just turned 4, and I saw it at the local theater in my hometown, the Rohs Opera House. It's still my favorite film.

First comic book movie I ever saw in a theatre was Superman in 1978.

(But before that, the first movies I ever saw in a theatre were Star Wars and Smokey and the Bandit in 1977.)

Well, technically the first issue of the Star Wars comic was released in April of 1977, so the comic predated the movie, so Star Wars could count, but if we are going with movies about long established comic properties and in theatres, it would be Superman.

If that is official then it would of been Star Wars for me, but I also went to see Superman 1978
I don’t think there were any Tarzan movies in theaters in the 70’s

Definitely the Adam West Batman movie! A friend's mom booked the local theater for a Saturday matinee birthday party. I was over the moon! One of my favorite childhood memories.

In reference to Monitor ep's "Vader walking off the screen" moment, little did I know then that someday I would be privileged to do the same for the Keaton era Batman showings one day. Long happy history with the Caped Crusader!

I saw Langellas Dracula at the drive in with the family for Halloween when it came out in a double feature with Sorcerers. Seemed like a perfectly good family film night. So that was 1979 and Vlad had a long run of Marvel comics by that time. The first Comic Book Superhero movie I saw at the theater was definitely Batman 89.

                        Superman 1978.
Logan’s Run had a comic book. But I’m sure it was after the movie.

Was it really Batman '89? I can't remember if I saw Superman in the theater. I think I buried my superhero fandom in the 80s, but I couldn't not see my favorite hero on the screen!
