    The Atomic Skull

Back to Bronze Age Metropolis, here comes the Atomic Skull to menace Superman. I had a version of this character many year ago using the skull head off a Remco figure. This one uses a modified glow-in-the-dark skull from Classic TV Toys (modified because it's one of those heads that forgot that a human skull has a back to it, which applies here even more than usual). The little bolts/buttons on the mask and boots are painted little fake pearls I got from the scrapbook aisle in Michaels.

I had a Whitman version of this comic that I picked up on a family trip to visit grandparents when I was 8 or 9 or so. I read and reread that story so many times. I think it was the first comic that I started to look at the panels and the art layout. I was more of a Batman fan than Supes, but this character and comic are near and dear to my childhood heart. And, you nailed it as usual. Fantastic job, and thanks for the memories.

I remember those packages. One of those packs introduced me to Black Lightning, who's still a favorite to this day, so I know what you mean.

Great looking custom, I have a bunch of Superman and Action Comics stored away and I know there’s one or two featuring Atomic Skull, I’ll have to check.

Not familiar with the character, but very cool indeed.

Looks awesome! I have always dug the "serial villain" version of the Atomic Skull over the post-Crisis "Ghost Rider" rip-off take.

Agreed. He was definitely a Bronze Age era villain, but he had a strong Golden/Silver Age vibe.
