Kenner Indiana Jones vs Hasbro Retro

    Marion Kenner vs Hasbro

The dress lace isn't the same pattern and it doesn't have the little flower on the back. The retro figure doesn't come with a stand like the original Kenner one. The colors are slightly different.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

    Toht Kenner vs Hasbro.

The Hasbro coat is very soft and rubbery and the Kenner one is much stiffer plastic. The button on the lapel is white on the Hasbro one and red of the Kenner figure. Other than that, they're pretty close.

The robe pattern is different. The squares are much smaller on the Kenner figure.

The colors are darker on the Hasbro figure and the wrench handle is thicker. The Hasbro figure does have the quick draw action feature but it is not as strong.

so how come no Arab swordsman? One thing I like about the retro Indy figure no broken thumb which the original was infamous for.

I'm sure they'll eventually reissue all the original Kenner figures. It was a pretty small line. It's kind of nice they are starting off mixing in new figures from Temple of Doom and Last Crusade with the original Raiders figures.

The bullwhip handle is larger and the pants color is lighter. The biggest improvement is he can hold his gun without his thumb popping off. I did not put the gun the Kenner figure's hand for the comparison picture because his thumb isn't broken and I want to keep it that way. The Hasbro figure does have the quick draw action.

There are subtle differences between the originals and reissues and the sculpts are slightly softer in places. They will still perfectly blend in with vintage figures and the differences probably really aren't more than all the little variations in the original Kenner SW line. I highly recommend these. The original figures are hard to hunt down, have gotten stupid expensive and are pretty fragile, Indy especially.

One little odd thing I noticed is all but Toht are on the modern paper thin cards. Toht's card back was thick proper vintage type card. I wonder if this is a running change.

Toht's coat is also a softer more flexible material. Who I would want to see in retro or the 1/12th line is Captain Katanga.

I think they should have a box set of elephants with the three Temple of Doom characters.

My Retro Indy arrived in the mail.

I'm happy the figures are close enough to the originals.

Much more exciting for me than the other Retro toys.

I never ordered Indiana Jones toys on eBay, so it's nice to have Indy again.

(my original Indy had both arms broken by a very heavy board, the only problem with that type of plastic and the way the arms were attached, other figure lines might have survived the encounter)

so far pegs are empty of Indy toys at Target expect for the kiddie line adventure which I don't see appealing to youngsters who I don't see checking out a 40 year old movie.
