Openers won't care about this but collectors like myself that prefer MIB and MOC figures for their collections will appreciate it. Too bad it wasn't in time for the Avengers 60th Anniversary, Dungeons and Dragons and Indiana Jones stuff though.

Has this been confirmed by Hasbro itself though? From what I understood yesterday, it was what 1 "leaker" posted and every toy news website, blogger and youtuber ran with it, but nothing official was ever released by Hasbro. Is this still the case or has Hasbro released a statement in response to this rampant rumor reporting?

From what was said yesterday, that press release was leaked by an "insider" but not officially released by Hasbro. That was the issue when I saw this yesterday. It was a Hasbro release, but not one that had been officially released by the company but leaked by someone either before release or because it wasn't official yet. However, many of the news sites picked up the story and said it was official when it wasn't, never bothering to actually check their sources.
