    Flash Gordon playset art

Thanks to an article on 13th Dimension by Peter Bosch, I now know that the central bust image of Flash from Mego's Flash Gordon playset isn't by creator Alex Raymond, but instead by Al Williamson:

From Flash Gordon #1 (King Features, Sept. 1966)

Who knows, maybe some of the other artwork on the Mego Flash line is also Williamson, or other Raymond "ghosts".

Check out other great Williamson Flash pieces in the full article:

Williamson was my intro to Flash Gordon comic art in these paperbacks I got at the Scholastic Book Fairs at my elementary schooli n the 70s.

Williamson being on the Star Wars daily strip had to have made George Lucas happy. I think it's really cool that when you consider that Lucas created Star Wars because he couldn't do Flash Gordon, Star Wars winds up getting this amazing and direct tie to Flash Gordon through Al Williamson.

With a Gil Kane cover, no less. Sweet!
