    Yes, saw the footage, horrific.

The much smaller P-63 KingCobra veered straight into the large B-17 Flying Fortress.

You can clearly hear an off camera shocked kid say: “Was that suppose to happen????”

    Horrible…

        Just terrible....

Yes it was a P-63 King Cobra instead of a P-51.

I had to find this video on reddit. Scary and crazy stuff.

They say memories are unreliable, I don't remember if I ever went to an air show or if I just saw them on TV ( six million dollar man, Charlie's Angels , etc,)

I had gone to one airshow in the Dallas area back in the 80s.

It just seems like these airplanes shouldn't be flying anymore. Certainly preserve them in air museums, fly reproductions of course. These airframes are inching closer to a hundred years old. The stress over the decades has made them unreliable. The lack of even minimal modern safety equipment has rendered them dangerous to the pilots and crew and passengers and even people on the ground. It is like giving a vintage toy to a toddler. It's not the best plan.

There were WAAAAAY too many planes in the air at once.
